News from the BAS Art Classroom
12th Annual Art Night
will place on
April 6, 2011
Our students, accompanied by one parent or guardian, are invited to spend an evening at the school making art, fun and memories together.
This year, the evening centers around "BAS – Learning,
Caring, Sharing”. Together
we will build a friendship community fence around the hallways of our building. Students will create self-portraits on individual fence pickets that will then be combined to make our community fence. Your young artist is preparing for ART NIGHT and will be your teacher on that night. I know the students enjoy the idea of being “the expert” who will lead you through the process of creating their own personal piece of the fence. At BAS, we discuss character education all year long.
This
project will focus on caring and sharing at BAS All students
will explore, learn and practice the process of creating a selfportrait,
why artist’s create art, and experience working as a
team to create the school-wide community fence.
This is a wonderful opportunity for parent or guardian and
child to work together making art. We hope you will join us.
Last year in 2010 BAS students, accompanied by one parent or guardian, spent an evening at school creating an art-themed project while having fun and making memories together. This year's theme focused around mask-making and characters from literature or animals.
Where We Explore and Nurture The Artist In All Of Us!
Our art program encourages creative expression, emphasizes learning while having fun, and provides students a place to feel successful.
All students will have the opportunity to develop basic concepts, elements and principles of art. This will be enhanced intellectually by integrating interdisciplinary instruction and bringing literacy into the art classroom to reinforce student understanding of the connection to everyday life through the arts and the academic learning areas. Through hands-on art exploration, readings, discussions, viewing of art reproductions and demonstrations students will develop a growing appreciation of the artist, works of art and arts within the community.
Our kindergarten students experience art every other week for thirty minutes. The children will explore many different hands-on media including crayons, oil pastels and paint to name a few. The projects are planned to foster curiosity and use of the students imagination.
Our first and second grade students experience art every week for forty minutes. We are creating projects that teach the basic elements of art: line, shape, color, form and texture. In first grade we will explore color mixing, and introduction of three-dimensional art through wood, clay and mosaics and more. In second grade we will learn about printmaking, bookmaking, silk painting , and mosaics. In addition to the basic elements of art, the second grade students will be introduced to the some of principles of art including: balance, harmony, variety, movement and unity.
There are many exciting projects in our future guaranteeing a very exciting, fun and productive year. Please stop by and view our ever-changing and continuing exhibition of art adorning our hallway walls and showcases.
