From the Principal's Desk
Welcome to the Bloomingdale Avenue School's website! Our school serves children in kindergarten, first and second grade, and is dedicated to providing a child-centered, nurturing environment for our young students.
The curriculum we offer at Bloomingdale Avenue School is comprehensive and fully aligned with New Jersey's Core Curriculum Standards and Frameworks. Our language arts program is literature-rich, and includes guided reading, shared reading, writers' workshop, and a kindergarten-level phonemic awareness program to identify and help at-risk students.
Our math program is hands-on and multi-sensory, and is strengthening students' understanding of numerical concepts, basic computation and problem solving skills. Science and social studies are similarly hands on, interactive, and life based. Technology-wise, our students are successfully using computers and software daily to learn and develop critical-thinking skills. Our Media Center is fully wired, and at least five computers are available in every classroom for our students' daily use.
At Bloomingdale Avenue School we've successfully partnered with parents to promote education. Our staff is committed to helping parents extend and augment outside of school lessons learned in school. Parents are also regularly present in the classroom to read aloud, and lend support during special events and holiday activities.
Beyond that, our PTA has helped architect such family events as Trick or Trunk, Dr. Seuss Night, Art Night, Field Day, Arbor Day Celebration, our annual Ice Cream Social, and our end-of-year Family Pool Party. Our PTA also works collaboratively with teachers and staff to coordinate a host of service-learning projects, included making sandwiches for the homeless, participating in the Scholastic Classrooms Care Program, and collecting holiday gifts for disabled children.
Other activities and after-school programs extending classroom learning include Chorus, Arts & Crafts Club, and Computer Club, for our second-grade students, and a Cup-Stacking Club, designed to increase the hand-eye coordination of our first-grade students.
At Bloomingdale Avenue School our goal is to foster a strong partnership with parents in order to provide youngsters with a quality education. The PTA sends out monthly a comprehensive newsletter that is chock full of information about the events and activities occurring at Bloomingdale and around the district. It includes a calendar of events scheduled throughout the year. Communication from you is equally important and we encourage you to contact us by phone, note or email.
