Brookside Place School

Cranford, NJ 07016

Michael Klimko, Principal

The school staff is a vibrant and dedicated group of individuals committed to working together to provide a positive, safe, and integrated learning environment where students are being prepared for success. Our mission is to promote education, as a priority in students’ lives, is academically challenging, and student centered.  At Brookside our Motto is:

Where children and knowledge grow!

We encourage parental and community support of programs as evidenced by their participation in the PTA, on our GET PSYCHED and School Advisory committees, as Library helpers, and through special events such as Brookside Pride Week, Pastries with Parents/Walk Your Child to School Day, Literature Day, Math Science Techno Day, Kids Nights Out, and a Children’s Day Olympics. Parents and friends of the school regularly share their expertise about their occupations and hobbies, as well as reading and assisting the students and teachers.

Our school program allows for flexibility and change while fostering students’ self esteem, responsibility and independence.   The Language Arts program is literature rich, comprehensive, challenging, and balanced.  Its major components included guided reading, shared reading, independent reading, and writers’ workshop.  Our mathematics program emphasizes the application of learned skills through problem solving and multisensory approaches. The Science program is student centered, hands on, and interactive.  In Social Studies students learn about historical events, cultures, and geographical concepts that will affect them in their lives.  The infusion and integration of technology (the C.O.W. (Computers on Wheels), access to the Internet, calculators, desktop computers, white boards, and digital cameras) continues to expand. Our Media Center is automated and literature rich. DEAR (Drop Everything and Read), DEAR Plus, Brookside Buddies, Be a STAR (Self-assess, Think critically, creatively, and Analytically, and Remember to communicate your ideas effectively), the Brookside Postal Department, Cubby Kids, High Five QUEST, Conflict Resolution, DARE, Basic Skills, GT, and assemblies are just a few of the programs and activities that occur on a regular basis.  Computer and Healthy Kids Clubs, Student Council, Chorus, Band, Orchestra, After School Athletics, School PLUS (a reading, mathematics, and study skills program), Reader’s Theater, and Young Playwrights Theater, are before and after school programs offered for students at various grade levels.
