CALL TO ORDER:

The Meeting was called to order at 1:10 PM.

GUEST SPEAKER:

Detective Toy of the Cranford Police Department was the guest speaker.  Issues covered were:

  • Safety Issues
  • Pace Car program
  • Traffic Issues

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:

§         Nov 20th Math Assembly – not as good as they were hoping for

§         Veteran’s Day Assembly – very successful and meaningful

§         4th Grade Huber Woods field trip – very well received

§         American Education Week is ongoing with parent visits to the classrooms

§         Picture retakes and class of 2009 shot are upcoming

§         Clusters will finish up on December 2nd.  Parents invited to come on December 9th from 2:15-2:50 for a show case.  Dr. Carrick is reviewing the Cluster program.

§         Parents asked if Mr. Klimko could consider a 9AM winter concert for next year to better accommodate working parents.

§         Open Agenda meeting in Music Room (Room 6) from now on.

§         Any tips for new Brookside families can be sent to Mr. Klimko and he will compile a list

§         Conference times must be kept to 15 minutes each.  Maybe teachers can keep a timer to keep everyone on track.

§         Envision Math is the new program and is being reviewed.  Suggested that some of the “new” processes can be shared with parents.

§         Chief Mason will look at crossing guard situation.  Cannot substitute with police officers – there are not enough to cover all schools.

§         Dr. Carrick’s meeting – she discussed the High School security cameras.

§         Reminder to parents that www.NJSP.org  lists all Megan’s Law sexual offenders in the area.

§         There is a website that kids are accessing easily which contains explicit sexual content.  Rumors around the school are that this website is being accessed by kids at Brookside.  If you would like more information and the name of the website, please contact Mr. Klimko directly.

REVIEW OF OCTOBER 2008 MEETING:

The Minutes from the October 2008 meeting were reviewed and approved as read.

OLD BUSINESS:

  • Safety:
    • We continue to have safety issues – the safety committee will be meeting to discuss these issues.  Anyone interested in helping, please contact the PTA.
    • Coordination of charitable donations and collections.

NEW BUSINESS:

  • School bells are working!
  • Reminder that meeting minutes are available online.
  • Because of scheduling, these thank you’s could not be announced prior to this November meeting:
    • Thank you to Susan Cave for her participation on the Board and for her term as president.  Thank you for all of the hours and phone calls put in.  During Susan’s time ass president the “face of Brookside” changed with the addition of the playground.  Caroline apologizes that this took so long.
  • PTC Wreath sale needs volunteers to assemble wreaths.  Please buy your wreath from them!  All proceeds go to a deserving CHS student who shows financial need for college.
  • Brookside magnets are on sale for $5 a piece.
  • Pretzel sale proceeds are going towards buying “Trees for Troops”.

ANNOUNCMENTS:

November 26th – single session, 27th and 28th off – Thanksgiving

December 3rd and 4th – Holiday Boutique

December 12th – Holiday Concert and Tea

No PTA Meeting in December – next meeting January 22nd 2009!
