  • "Messages to the Future"...Millenium Yearbook in the Making
    MSNBC featured Ms. Joan A. Puma, Sean Powell '01, Chas Muckenthaler '01, and Eric Strom '01 for creating a multimedia time capsule for the Class of 2001. The project was headed by Mr. Stephen Van Hecke.

  • CONGRATULATIONS TO SENIOR TOM POLITO
    On Saturday, June 2 senior right-hander Tom Polito ended his season with a 11-1 victory over Plainfield for the Union County Tournament Championship. Tom's season record is 9-0 with a career record of 27-1. He had won the UCT for the third year in a row. Tom was also named the Union County Player of the Year. The team ended the season with a record of 20-9. Congratulations to Tom and the entire baseball team on a great season.

  • Congratulations to Mr. Ronald Spinella, Cranford Teacher of the Year 2001-2002.


  • Congratulations to Dr. Josephine C. Harris, Rotary Teacher of the Year 2001-2002, for her commitment to "serve the community, both in and out of the classroom."

  • Best Practices Awards were presented to:

  • 2001 HALL OF FAME RECOGNITION!
    Equity Achievement Award for Best Practices
    Ms. Eileen Dachnowicz has been named to the Equity Achievement Hall of Fame!
    The Visible Woman Club was nominated to the Hall of Fame by the Statewide Nontraditional Career Assistance Center.
    Ms. Dachnowicz said that, "Bringing the development of the club from a high school group to one affecting the community at large has been an incredible experience. We have fostered the leadership ability of young females by making them activists in the community."

    Ms. Diane Connelly and Ms. Joan Puma were chosen for the Equity Achievement Award for Best Practices in the 2000-2001 school year.
    Their program, "Technofilles: Females in Computer Technology," was also nominated by the Statewide Nontraditional Career Assistance Center.

    Ms. Connelly stated that, "Working with the students in the Technofilles to alleviate their reluctance to improve their technology skills has been enlightening and exhilarating. Learning with young women is an incredible experience."
    And according to Ms. Puma, "We stress that one's reach should exceed one's grasp. Clearly, these young women have discovered technology is no longer a male bastion."



  • Jennifer Carreto has won 1st place, for her essay entitled "Imagine," in the Union County Essay Contest for Holocaust Rememberance Day. The contest was sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Central New Jersey.


  • Mr. George Huff has been chosen as Union County Counselor of the Year!


  • Keith Stanley '01 and Peter Sevigny '01 were awarded scholarships by the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants. To gain these awards, they had to be among the top scorers on the Uniform Examination taken by over 550 students, and had to successfully pass through an interview process administered by the Society. Keith and Peter are students with Mr. Richard Phillips. Also, Lindsey Scardino, Anne Thermann, and Carolyn Thermann were selected to receive the NJSCPA Union County Local Chapter Scholarship.
    CONGRATULATIONS TO KEITH, PETER, LINDSEY, ANNE, CAROLYN, AND ALSO TO MR. PHILLIPS!


  • American Mathematics Competitions
    Seniors Justin Baker, Catherine Connelly, and Alan Rosenkrans all tied for first place as AMC 12 School Winners in the recent American Mathematics Competition. Sophomore Patrick Muha was the individual AMC 10 Student Winner and advanced to the next round, THE AMERICAN INVITATIONAL MATHEMATICS EXAMINATIONS (AIME), which leads to the International Mathematics Olympiad.
    Congratulations Justin, Catherine, Alan, and Patrick. Good going Patrick!


  • Senior Jackie Feinthel broke two school swimming records at the Meet of Champions.
    She broke both the 500m Freestyle and the 200m Freestyle events. In the 500m her time was 5:11.14, and she swam the 200m in 1:58.17. The tournament was held at the Glouchester County Institute of Technonlogy.



  • The NATIONAL SOCCER COACHES ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA and Adidas
    Susan Flamini has been selected as a memeber of the NSCAA / Adidas All-America Team as a player from Cranford High School for the year 2000 .


  • Congratulations To The Wrestling Team!

    The Wrestling team placed first in this year's District Tournament for the first time in 15 years. Congratulations to Bob Verhoeven, Greg Donofrio, and Brendan Small for their outstanding performances. All three placed first in the tournament, with Brendan Small also being chosen Athlete of the Week.

  • Cranford Girls Soccer - State Champions!
    Our girls soccer team is ranked second in the nation.
    Congratulations to the team!


  • Cranford Boys Cross Country - State Champs!
    Our boys Cross Country team won the group III State Championship at Holmdel Park on Noverber 11th. Congratulations to the team!

  • Congratulations to Catherine Connelly, Veronica Heller, Thomas Newman and Victoria Ply, Semi-Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Competition, and the nine seniors who were commended for their superior scores in this rigorous event.

  • The Scottish Council for Educational Technology cited Cranford High School's ThinkQuest team - Interesting Physics Phenomena: Why Do Things Float? - in a CD-ROM created for physics teachers. The CD is a source that helps physics teachers use the Internet in their classrooms. The team consists of Joseph Limone, Patrick Bock, and Mrs. Carol Fedoryk (coach).


  • The Art Honor Society and the Art Club advised by Dr. Josephine C. Harris, won third prize in a national competition sponsored by Fleet Boston Financial Corporate Marketing. Their prize was $3,000 for the "Deck the Walls" project which was done to beautify the library and weightroom. Mr.Christopher Hull, Head Varsity Football Coach, the catalyst for the weight-room makeover, selected the inspirational quotes which adorn the walls.

  • Congratulations to Eric Strom '01 winner of the Rensselaer Medal for Outstanding Achievement in Math and Science.

  • The First Annual Educational Forum of New Jersey, "We Teach for the Future," was held at Kean University. The forum was sponsored by the New Jersey State Department of Education and the Educational Forum of New Jersey. Representing the Cranford Public School District were Dr. Laura B. Cardine, Mr. Gregg Caverly, Mrs. Carol A. Fedoryk, who also was a facilitator, and Mr. Bernard Flashberg. Participants addressed the issues of establishing educational partnerships, implementing educational tools for the future, and revitalizing the educational process.


  • Josh Harris '02 won the "Stand Up and Speak Out for Brotherhood and Sisterhood" contest. The contest, held at the State Museum in Trenton, was sponsored by the National Conference for Community and Justice and the Union County Human Relations Commission. Secretary of State DeForest Soaries Jr. awarded 16-year-old Josh his $500 savings bond and proclamation from the governor.


  • Senior Eric Strom attended the NexTech Summit for Young Technology Leaders in Austin, Texas during the Summer of 2000. He co-led a team of 35 people that won the Grand Prize against 25 other teams by creating a product in a competition to win venture capital. Their product was a watch which monitors the vital life signs of the wearer. Ms. Joan A. Puma recommended Eric for the summit.
