Memorable Moments 2004-2005
Cranford High School continues to receive accolades for its many fine programs. CHS was recently selected as one of the Top 1000 Schools in the nation by Newsweek Magazine!

Ready-Set-Teach is designed for students interested in teaching and learning how to present information in an effective way. Additionally, students investigate how the mind works and the learning process involved in education. On April 25 2005, three members from the state department visited Cranford High School and were treated to a presentation of the program. Students presently in the program, as well as some graduates currently attending college, led the presentation.
Intergenerational Studies, developed by Mr. Richard Hurley was awarded a Promising Practices recognition from The Character Education Partnership, a national organization. Intergenerational Studies is part of the Sociology class taught at Cranford High School. In this program, a small group of senior citizens discuss various topics with our students. The main goal of this program is to have students learn from a primary source how society has changed over the last 50 years or so.

The Peer Program Garage Sale was a great success! $3,425.00 was raised for a local family with mounting medical bills. Many thanks to all of the students, teachers, and parent volunteers who helped make the event a huge success! Thanks to the community who donated the gently used items and to those who purchased those items at the garage sale.
Students in the Environmental Science Club are working with students from California and India as part of the new ELEVATE (Enriched Learning Experiences Via Applied Technology) program. Through video conferencing, the students collaborate to discuss ethical issues within a scientific framework. Teacher Amy Biasucci developed the program with Nadar Twal, whom she met through her National Teacher recognition by the Milken Family Foundation.
There were 62 standing members and 50 new members who attended the National Honors Society Induction. The guest speaker was Superior Court Judge Karen Cassidy. The officers presented their speeches on the NHS four characteristics. Following the speeches the candlelighting ceremony took place and then the oath of induction was administered to the new members.
Over 160 senior citizen attended the annual Bingo Brunch on Sunday April 17th at Cranford High School. Many of the donations came from local merchants, CHS staff and students. Members of The Scholar's Circle, under the direction of Mr. Arlotta, coordinated the event.
Our winter sport's teams have been doing well. The Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Bowling, Wrestling and Winter Track Teams all qualified for participation in the State Tournament this season.
In the March Tempo Magazine one of the students from our school was featured in it. In the March Tempo Magazine he received the Governors Award.
We are proud to announce that 3 of our fellow students are finalist in the 2005 competition for Merit Scholarship Awards.We also have 10 commended students in the 2005 National Merit Scholarship program.
The New England Patriots have won SuperBowl 39.They faced the Eagles and came out victorious with a 24-21 win. In the last 4 years the Patriots have won 3 NFL Championships. |  |
Coach Hull was named Coach of the Year after making three consecutive playoff appearances. CHS had only appeared once before in school history. In the past three years CHS has accumulated a record of 22-9, the most successful three-year run in school history. Coach Hull just completed his sixth year as head coach. This award was presented by the Star Ledger.
The Marching Band performed at the Bloomfield Invitational Band Festival. The band members placed fourth overall out of 16 bands from around New Jersey.
The members of the Pre-Engineering and Robotics Club competed in Widnener University's annual engineering design competition. There were four students from our school which competed in this competition. Both fourth and ninth place were taken by our students out of the 103 teams that were present.

On October 27th, Freshmen and Sophomores attended The Service Learning Fair. This event was held for all students interested in service learning and it gave them a chance to engage in a service learning project. There were many organizations which attended the The Service Learning Fair.
Mrs. Amy Biasucci of Cranford High School has won the third place in the Science, Mathematics or Technology Teacher of the Year Award sponsored by the New Jersey Center for Science and Technology Education at Kean University. The Award consists of $500 for Mrs. Biasucci. This Award will be given to her at a luncheon held in conjunction with the NJEA Convention.
After the events of 9/11, the Ice Hockey Team was looking for a way to help the families of victims. Our Ice Hockey Team split their two regular season games with Westfield and decided to have a "rubber match." They managed to raise $4,600 by selling t-shirts and tickets. The money was then split evenly between the Cranford and Westfield families. The next year our team had another match and raised $3750, which was donated to the Cranford Memorial Fund.

| Cranford High School Quilting Club won The Moda Quilt Challenge.
The Quilting Club designed and made the quilt(as show on right). They started in January and finished it in August. The quilt was selected President's choice, "best of the best" quilt. The Quilting Club won $500 cash and $500 in Moda fabric. |
The Ancient craft of quilting is enjoying a big revival in New Jersey, across the country and internationally. Barbara Narus' Cranford High School Quilting Club recently submitted a group designed and hand made quilt into the educational division of the National Moda Quilt Challenge. |  |
The Cranford Fund For Educational Excellence has recently finished its 2004-05 Grant awards process and we are pleased to recognize the following teachers:
Barbara Carroll, Jeff Maiore, and Carol Spinello for Promoting Tolerance for Diversity: Infusing Global Literature Through Literacy Circles.
