Memorable Moments 1997-1998
- Mr. Bernard Flashberg was selected as Cranford's
Teacher of the Year for '98-'99
- The Visible Woman Club, advised by
Mrs. Eileen Dachnowicz, became visible to the world via its own Internet site. Created by
Ms. Joan Puma, the site was organized and developed by
Katie McGowan, Alisa Becker and Lauren Kitzhoffer
- Ms. Rene Dorfman was named Union County Coach of the Year
- New eligibility rules were instituted for senior exemptions from exams
- The Hats-Off rule remained in effect
- The Denver Broncos defeated the Green Bay Packers
in the Super Bowl
- Mrs. Carol Fedoryk was the
Cranford School District Teacher of the Year and the
Union County Teacher of the Year for '97-'98
- The Orchestra, Concert Band, Marching Band and Band Front,
Stage Band, and Marching Percussion Ensembles participated in the
Annapolis Classic Music Festival. Lead by Mr. Horowitz, all received the highest possible rating of outstanding
- Mrs. Eileen Dachnowicz became the language arts supervisor
- John Healey, student of Ms. Joanne Knego, and Lauren Kusiv,
student of Mrs. Doris Cudworth, had their artwork displayed in
the New Jersey State Teen Arts Festival.
John's painting and Laruen's scratchboard were chosen to be
exhibited in public libraries throughout New Jersey
- After a total of more than 7 decades in education,
Mrs. Connie McNamara and Mr. Ed Roberts retire from teaching
- Real Quiet won the Kentucky Derby and Pimlico
in a bid for the Triple Crown
- Two ThinkQuest teams were semi-finalists:

- The '97 ThinkQuest entry,Rescue 411,
made it to Yahoo's Top: Health: First Aid Directory (creators Daina Lieberman and Julia Becker)
- The Mock Trial team, advised by Mr. Flashberg,
became Union County champions
- Cranford's Youth and Government Club, advised by
Mr. Al Berke, was chosen as the best delegation in New Jersey at the Youth and Government Conference. And, Brian Boyle was selected as
Youth Governor for the State of New Jersey
- The Chicago Bulls won their
6th NBA championship in eight years
- Mr. Jay Smith was the recipient of the
Geraldine Dodge Foundation Fellowship for photography
- Dr. Josephine Harris was nominated for
the New Jersey Council for the Humanities,
1998 Teacher of the Year.
Her nomination was enthusiastically endorsed by Mr. Michael Blasucci.

- Auto Class won first place in
Lincoln Tech's contest for engine building
- Mentored by Dr. Josephine Harris:

Kristyn Forrester had her batik, The Secret Garden,
exhibited at the Morris Museum. Her work was 1 of 55 chosen from 500
entries statewide.

Nicholas Katsikis was the recipient of the 1998 New Jersey Governor's
Award in Arts Education
- Katie Keenan won second place in the
Congressional Arts Competition for her batik, "Rose Window"
- Mark McGwire of the Saint Louis Cardinals is
on pace to hit 60 homeruns
- Mr. Michael D. Blasucci, the principal of the millenium, retires from Cranford High School.
