The purpose of the French Honor
Society, an affiliate of the National Society Honoraire de Francais, is
to recognize high achievement in French students of Cranford High School
and to promote interest in French culture. A student who has maintained
an honor average in the study of French in French III, IV, or V is eligible
for membership.
Latin Honor Society Advisor- Ms. McGuire
Spanish National Honor Society
Advisor- Ms. Crocamo
The purpose of the Spanish National Honor Society is
to recognize high achievement in Spanish by students of Cranford High School
and to promote continuity of interest in the Hispanic culture. A
student who has maintained an honor average in the study of Spanish in
Spanish III, IV, V is eligible for membership.
National Honor Society Advisor - Ms. Weeks
The Cranford Chapter of the National Honor Society received
its charter in 1924. Its aims are to encourage the pupils to develop
an all around program, including high attainment in scholarship and in
all those activities which develop the best citizenship.
Membership is open to juniors and seniors only with
members being selected by the Faculty Council. Students may not apply
for membership, but are invited to join. Member selection is decided
in the spring of the year with an induction ceremony which is held for
the candidates selected.
Membership selection is based on four areas of consideration.
These are scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Candidates
must earn a 3.75 GPA for consideration. The Society desires members
who are not only excellent academically, but who are of the highest character,
involved in school and community organizations and provide leadership both
within and without the classroom.
Computer Honor Society/Club
Advisor- Ms. J. Carroll
The Computer Honor Society/Club provides students with an interest in computer related technology an opportunity to expand their knowledge base in this quickly and ever-changing field. To this end,
service to the high school and to the school district is encouraged; outstanding achievement in members is recognized. Activities include, but are not limited to, student presentation of workshops pertaining to varied software applications,
individualized tutoring services, Web site design and creation, and cooperative learning sessions.
Math Honor Society (Mu Alpha Theta)
Advisor- Ms. Adam
Mu Alpha Theta is a national Math Honor Society that recognizes juniors and seniors who have excelled in mathematics. Cranford's local chapter runs a math-tutoring center before and after school on a daily basis.
Scholars' Circle
Advisor- Ms. B. Carroll
"The Scholar's Circle" is a club that challenges students to pursue academic interests beyond the classroom walls. As part of the club, students may work with the moderator on preparing for an AP exam independently or participate in an enrichment program outside of school. The Scholar's Circle is the club for students who enjoy learning for learning's sake. All are welcome.
Social Studies Honor Society
Advisor- Ms. Podbelski
The Social Studies Honor Society is comprised of students in grades 11 and 12 who have demonstrated an outstanding academic record in required history courses and who have taken a minimum of two social studies electives. In addition, in order to be inducted into the Honor Society, the student must have a member of the Social Studies Department support his or her application. The student applicant should also be involved in at least one of the co-curricular activities related to Social Studies.
Tri-M Music Honor Society
Advisor- Mr. Rafaniello
The Tri-M Music Honor Society is a club designed for
choir, band, and orchestra students. Each week students gather to
listen to, discuss, and perform music. Students interested in becoming
official, inducted members in the Cranford High School Chapter of Tri-M
must first meet certain academic and musical requirements. As a club,
the students see their purpose as one of heightening musical awareness
in the school, providing musical service to the community, and personal
music growth.
