STUDENT AGREEMENT RULES OF THE PROGRAM In a cooperative program where the employer, the school and the student are all concerned and cooperating together, it is absolutely necessary that certain rules and regulations be strictly observed. The employers have certain work which must be done, and they are employing you with pay to do it. The school has a responsibility in this arrangement. You are preparing for future employment and are making a reputation and record which will follow you the rest of your life. You are also earning school credit for your work. It should be understood from the beginning that any student who does not take this work or responsibility seriously and who fails to abide by these rules or those of the employer will be dropped immediately from the program. SCHOOL CREDITS In order to receive credit for the course, the student must be employed for a minimum of 15 hours per week and earn a total of 540 hours for the year of which 135 hours must be completed each marking period. Only upon satisfactory completion of the course will the student receive credit for graduation. RELATED CLASS AND ACADEMIC SUBJECTS The class part of the program requires assignments, occasional reports, tests, and a final examination. If a student is absent for legitimate reasons, missed assignments must be obtained from the coordinator and promptly completed. This is the responsibility of the student. School comes before the job and thus grades must be maintained at a passing average in all subjects. ATTENDANCE If you are ill you must call your employer and the school to inform them of the situation. This must be done BEFORE 9:00 a.m. Good attendance at both school and work is essential; only REAL ILLNESS can be considered a legitimate cause for remaining away from work or school. ANY COOPERATIVE EDUCATION STUDENT ABSENT FROM SCHOOL AND PRESENT AT WORK WITHOUT PRIOR PERMISSION FROM THE COORDINATOR WILL BE CONSIDERED TRUANT FROM SCHOOL AND CHARGED WITH CLASS CUTS FOR THE DATE AND/OR DATES OF THE OCCURANCE. THE EMPLOYER WILL ALSO BE ASKED TO DISMISS THE STUDENT FROM THE JOB ON THAT PARTICULAR DAY. If you are suspended from school, you CANNOT go to work. TERMINATION OF EMPLOYMENT No student worker under the Program may leave the job without the consent of the teacher-coordinator. Speak to the coordinator about any difficulty arising with regard to work, pay, hours, etc. or any other change you might wish to make before discussing it with your employer. If it is mutually agreed by the employer and the coordinator that the job must be terminated, the employer must be given at least two weeks notice during which time the student will report at usual. Dismissal from your job due to your actions, i.e. fired, will result in a failing grade for that marking period. A student who becomes unemployed must remain in school for the regular school day unless there is a scheduled interview confirmed by the coordinator. A job search report will be kept by you and turned in each day for the previous day’s search listing the places where you inquired about a job. Related work will be assigned to be performed during the hours when the student does not have regularly scheduled classes. Failure to abide by this regulation will be regarded as an unexcused absence and will be referred to the Dean of Students. For every day not employed and not in school, a grade of “O” will be given. WAGE AND HOUR REPORTS It is the responsibility of the student to obtain and complete a work record each week. This report must include the days and hours worked each week and the total amount of wages received. This report will be checked periodically by the coordinator. PUNCTUALITY The employer expects you to report at a given time. Failure to do so may cause other employees to work overtime or may result in other serious inconveniences. You are expected to arrive at least five minutes before you are due so that you are prepared to begin your work promptly. HONESTY Deviation from complete honesty will not be tolerated and will cause you to be dropped from the Program. This could influence your chances of obtaining future employment. GROOMING All students must conform to the dress regulations of their place of employment. Attention must be given to neatness and safety. All corrections suggested by the employer and the coordinator are to receive prompt attention by the student. INSURANCE It is recommended that the student subscribe to the 24-hour student accident insurance in order to be protected while traveling from school to work and from work to home. TRANSPORTATION Transportation from school to the job and from the job to home is the responsibility of the student. It is also the student’s responsibility to be certain that there is adequate insurance coverage on the vehicle to cover self and any passengers in the car. THE SCHOOL IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR PRIVATE TRANSPORTATION. VACATIONS The school will have scheduled vacations when your employer does not. Your obligation is to your employer, and you must meet the work schedule. STUDENT ORGANIZATION The student organization (DECA or FBLA) is an integral part of the Program and participation in club activities is required. EMPLOYER APPRECIATION LUNCHEON/DINNER The annual employer appreciation luncheon/dinner is an integral part of the Program and attendance at this end-of-the-year function is required. DISMISSAL FROM SCHOOL The student will be dismissed from school after the last scheduled class. If the student does not report directly to work, it will be necessary for parents to sign a form indicating their knowledge of the student’s work schedule. “I have read and understand the above rules of the program and agree to abide by them. I realize that failure to do so might result in dismissal from the program and a loss of all credit.” |
