Service Learning...
Is learning through active participation in a thoughtfully organized service activity.
Allows students to bring the community into the classroom and extends the learning enviroment beyond the walls of the classroom.
Provides structured time for you to reflect on the service experience through writing.
Contributes to your personal and intellectual development.
Service learning occurs many times without the knowledge of the learner. For example, a person who begins working in a soup kitchen might develop, through their contact with poor individuals, new and different ideas about the plight of poor individuals.
While performing a service, the person is learning about a different segment of society, hence, Service-Learning is taking place!!!!
Your reflections on the activities in this portfolio (especially the reflection that accompanies the Tommorrow portion) will reveal how your completion of this project accomplishes some of the above goals.
