Senior Service Learning Project 2006-2007



RULES, REQUIREMENTS, AND EXPECTATIONS OF STUDENTS

a. Student applications must provide the following information related to their desired projects; project description, project goals, project location, methods for attaining goals, and reason for choice of project. Student applications must be printed in ink or typed by the applicant.

b. Students must work 25 hours a week with a minimum of 2 hours a day not including lunch. Schedules may be altered to fit school related activities and obligations. Although students may want to make their own schedules, the employer ultimately determines the hours.

c. Students may elect to continue to take one or two classes at Cranford High School and that time will be counted towards the five hours.

d. A maximum of one absence will be allowed from the program regardless of the nature of the absence. Any more than one missed day will result in expulsion from the program and return to normal classroom activity. Students must inform Cranford High School and their employers if they will be out of work for any reason.

e. There will be mandatory bi-weekly meetings, which gives the school an opportunity to inform students of any upcoming events. In addition, the meetings will serve as an opportunity for students to report on the progress of their program.

f. Each student is required to maintain a journal of daily activities related to the achievement of project goals. The journal must be turned in at the scheduled weekly meeting and will be monitored by the Senior Service Project Coordinator.

g. Monitoring of the program will be continuous. Monitoring will consist of evaluation of student journals, employer evaluations of students, random on-site checks, and random telephone checks. Monitoring personnel will supervise project performance as it relates to the following:
1. Attendance    2. Tardiness    3. Attitude     4. Cooperation    5. Expertise

h. Students will be required to sign a contract with all of the specifications of the program.

i. Any course requirements assigned at the beginning of the course such as a research paper will still be mandatory for students in the senior service program.

j. There will be a mandatory evening Parent/Guardian meeting prior to the start of the Senior Service Learning Project.

k. Prior to the start of the Senior Service Learning Project, students will be required to submit their contract and a form signed by all their teachers indicating they have met all classroom obligations - homework, quizzes, tests, books, and/or fines submitted and all athletic equipment turned in.
