A Note From The Principal

It’s hard to believe another school year is coming to a close.  We say it every year, but it is still true.  The year always moves so quickly, we don’t know where the time has gone.  I was lucky to arrive at Livingston in March and complete the year with the students and staff.

Just last week I received a copy of the yearbook and was able to review all the events of the past year.  This year began with a huge celebration marking the 50th Anniversary of Livingston Avenue School.  Everyone was especially excited to celebrate because the school reopened and looked better than ever.  The year continued with many fun activities planned by the classroom teachers or PTA.  Our students participated in a kindness celebration,  pumpkin painting, Halloween parade, book projects, winter and spring concerts, book fairs, enrichment clusters, Night of the Stars, art show, field trips, community service endeavors, and after school clubs and activities.

At Livingston Avenue School we believe in shaping the entire student academically, socially, and emotionally.  The daily classroom lessons, projects, and extra-curricular activities lend themselves to creating a well-rounded student.  The teachers speak so often about the growth and maturity they’ve seen throughout the year.  I encourage a continuation of that growth by reading, writing, and practicing math facts throughout the summer.

I hope you have a wonderful summer filled with new and fun experiences.  I look forward to seeing you in the fall and hearing about all your adventures.  Enjoy!!

SCHOOL RESOURCES

You and your company can help support our school by providing resources to compliment our educational programs.  Supplies (big and small), furniture, computer equipment, gardening materials and personnel resources for classroom presentations (guest speakers) are just some examples.  Larger companies often discard items that our classrooms would value.  Please take the time to mention to your company our interest in functional equipment, furniture and supplies.

An excellent parental suggestion we received was to include examples of resources in this newsletter, so we have categorized and listed some below.

FURNITURE & SUPPLIES

Bookcases
Book Display Racks
File Cabinets
Tables
Mailbox Organizers
Adult Desk Chairs
Solid Color Area Rugs
Marker Boards
Gardening Supplies

TECHNOLOGY

Computer monitors and towers
Laptops
Printers
Disks/Keys/Burnable CD Roms
Televisions
DVD/VCR Players
Overhead Projectors

In addition, many parents have also asked if there are ways they can donate time and effort.  Experts are invited in to speak with our students and provide real-world connections.  We would also appreciate the assistance of parents who are not able to come to school during the day but are willing to complete meaningful projects for children.

PARENT RESOURCES

  • create books on tape
  • bind class books
  • make file folder games to support our classrooms
  • make covers for book projects
  • speak to a class or at an assembly

Please contact Ms. Bache if you have any ideas or leads on resources, including discounted or donated materials.  Thank you for any additional support you can give our children and our school.
