Mission Statement
Orange Avenue, a suburban 3-8 school, is committed to nurturing students, while involving students, parents and teachers in an educational environment that emphasizes cooperation, discovery and enjoyment of learning.
Our school community strives to develop responsible citizens who possess positive self-esteem, respect for others and an interest in life-long learning.
September has come and gone and I am pleased to report to you that we are off to a very good start to the 2011-2012 academic year. Our students have settled into their classes reestablishing old friendships and forging new ones. As Ms. Colosimo and I visit the classrooms, it is so exciting to see the growth our students have made in such a short time. We had a wonderful turn-out at our Open Houses. We appreciate the efforts and feedback of all who attended and to the PTA volunteers. Now that you have met your child's teachers, please commit to establishing a positive working relationship with them and keep communication open throughout the year. You are our partners in the process of educating your child. Please be sure to update Parent Emergency Information on Power School, if you have not done so already. If you need any assistance, do not hesitate to reach out to the main office.
Incredibly, Halloween is just around the corner. Our elementary students will participate in the Halloween Parade Monday, October 31 beginning at 1:30 pm. Middle school students are permitted to wear costumes to school that same day. Here are some reminders in preparing for Halloween:
Elementary School Students
- Students may change during lunch in school or be signed out by parents. Please send in a note if you plan on picking up your child during lunch.
- The parade will take place outside, weather permitting with the parade route marked so as to provide all spectators the opportunity to watch.
- In case of inclement weather, the parade will be held indoors where students will progress through the corridors. Spectators will be permitted in designated areas.
- Parents are invited into the auditorium at the end of the parade-whether held indoors or out- to view students as they march across the stage. Each class will be introduced and show their costume on stage.
- The call as to whether or not the parade will be outside or inside will be made only hours before the parade begins.
Middle School Students
- May wear their costumes for the duration of the day.
- Students must change for gym
- The day will remain academically centered and students will attend their normal school classes.
We are so looking forward to Halloween and the parade of costumes the students will display. Whether they are scary, funny or whimsical we want to keep our children safe. For that reason we ask you to please make sure your child’s costume is in line with the following guidelines:
· Students must be able to participate in the normal school activities
· Students must be able to sit and stand with ease
· Students may not bring or wear masks or make-up that completely conceals their identity
· Costumes must be in good taste and without offensive or inappropriate language or symbols
· No imitation swords, knives, guns, or weapons of any kind are permitted
· We ask that students use any aerosol spray at home; not in school.
Thank you for all the support and help you provide in school and at home!
