"CRANFORD AS A CARING COMMUNITY"

Anne Marie Francis 908-709-8879
Character Education/Lions-Quest Coordinator email: francisa@cranfordschools.org

What is CHARACTER EDUCATION?

"Character Education" is providing our children with what is
needed to assist them in becoming ethical, responsible, caring people.

"Character Education" leads students to knowing, believing
in and acting upon core ethical values based on:

CARING

RESPECT

CITIZENSHIP

FAIRNESS

RESPONSIBILITY

TRUSTWORTHINESS

Developing GOOD CHARACTER is first and foremost a parental responsibility - however, it is also a community responsibility
that must be shared with the schools, youth groups, businesses
and all community organizations.
"It takes a TOWNSHIP to raise a child…"

What does CHARACTER EDUCATION look like
in CRANFORD?

The Lions-Quest Program has been a part of the Cranford Public
Schools since 1994. The K-5 program is called "Skills for Growing"
and the 6th-8th-grade program is called "Skills for Adolescence."
These curricula address such life skills as self-discipline, responsibility,
good judgment, communication, self-confidence
and respect for others.
In a continuing effort to promote "CRANFORD AS A CARING
COMMUNITY", the program has been expanded to include parent
education. Its purpose is to support parents in their vital role as
their children's first teacher.
One trained volunteer parent from each of the (6) elementary
schools is facilitating a series of meetings to teach parents
techniques that support and reinforce the skills presented in
the curriculum.
