The third marking period theme of "Friends and Communities" will be used as a vehicle for the school's anti-bullying program. Taking a positive approach, students will be involved in lessons requiring them to consider what it means to be a good friend. Self control and conflict resolution skills will also be classroom topics.

Using children's literature and various sites as a spring board for discussion, children will learn how people organize and support one another in communities.  Classroom lessons will call attention to the world of work and how people's occupations contribute to the common good.   Parents were asked to consider scheduling a time to come to school and talk about their various jobs/occupations. 

                                                                                           

 

In addition, second grades will be learning about animals and their habitats. As a spring board to this unit, we will be having a demonstration of chicken[1]+s given by "Quiver Farms." Eggs wil be left for each second grade class so that they will be able to follow the "egg to chick" process!
