GRIT AND GROWTH MINDSET

Training Our Brains - Keeping in mind the social/emotional needs of the gifted student, we have been exploring the importance of Grit and a Growth Mindset. Students learned about the difference between the two through activities, discussion, and team challenges with their fellow P2E students. They discovered ways to transform a fixed mindset into a fully developed growth mindset! We have also been stressing the importance of "grit" and perseverance through obstacles and provided the students with coping strategies to assist them when encountering a challenging problem.

Sixth grade students at O.A.S. shared their knowledge and enthusiasm with their fellow classmates on the importance of having a "growth mindset" by visiting several 5th and 6th grade classes to share their new learning.

Luke Robinson starred as the keynote speaker with his phenomenal TED Talk entitled, "A Goal in Mind" which explored the idea of perspective. After learning about tips for developing grit and tackling obstacles, students were led to create a S.M.A.R.T. Goal relating to something they wanted to work toward achieving. A big thanks to the excellent presenters! We received lots of positive feedback from both teachers and students!
