Social Studies

The Social Studies Department offers students a variety of courses and activities to help them develop their understanding of the growth of the world and our society.  Through required courses such as World History and U.S. History II, students are exposed to important issues that societies have encountered.  In 10th and 11th grades, students are challenged to evaluate the development of our country’s history and government in United States History I & II.

In addition to these required courses, the Social Studies Department offers a wide variety of electives to satisfy the interests of students and help prepare them to enter society as good citizens.  Advanced Placement courses are offered to challenge students and prepare them for college-level work. To complement class work, the award winning Model United Nations, Youth & Government, and Mock Trial programs are offered for student involvement.  In addition, there is a History Club that students are encouraged to join and the newly chartered Rho Kappa Honor Society, sponsored by the National Council of Social Studies, which inducts members in the spring of their junior year.
