Dear Parents and Guardians,Mark Edery Picture

I hope that this message finds you healthy, happy, and well. I am so excited to introduce myself as the Principal of Orange Avenue School. I very much look forward to meeting and getting to know you and your children. You and your family will be supported completely and unconditionally by me. My door is always open and my ears are ready to listen to anything and everything that is important to you. That which is important to you is also very important to me.

While attending Orange Avenue School, every student receives unconditional love from every adult. They experience relevant and challenging learning activities. By focusing on critical thinking, collaboration, and technology integration, every student is a leader who is being prepared to take their place as a true 21st Century Learner.

A little bit about me - My wife Karen and I have been married for sixteen years and have been blessed with three wonderful children. Theresa is 11, Paul is 9, and Angelina is 4.  I have a large extended family that truly means the world to me. Aside from devoting time toward my home and school families, I am passionate about fishing and have fished all over the country. I also love gardening and raise most of my own vegetables during the summer months. When the deer don’t eat what I have grown, I am very grateful to eat what they have left for me!

The 2016-2017 school year marks the beginning of my eighteenth year as a professional educator. I have been a school leader for the last thirteen school years. I have served as a Principal, Vice-Principal, Director, and Curriculum Supervisor. I believe in extending unconditional love to students in ways that will help them to develop socially, emotionally, and academically. I am nearing the end of my doctoral studies at Rutgers University. It feels great to have finished all of the coursework. My dissertation focus deals with elementary literacy.

Home-school connections are so very important. Your perspective as parents will be greatly valued and respected. I’m also a parent of elementary school children.  I constantly view school issues through that lens, asking myself what outcomes I would hope for as a parent. This drives the decisions that I make on a daily basis as I ask myself, “If I were the parent, is this what I would want for my own child?” Please know that as we begin this new year, I am always available for anything that you need, whenever you need it.

I would absolutely love to meet each of you as we begin the school year. This is an open invitation with no obligation whatsoever. If you would like to come in to school to meet and chat, please call or email and I will be available at any time that works well for you.  We will also have other opportunities to get to know each other as the school year progresses.

    Wishing you the very best,

    Marc Edery
