Sun exposure is a healthy way to get Vitamin D, which helps our bodies absorb calcium for stronger, healthier bones; however too much sun can be dangerous.
Some tips to keep in mind….
- Put sunscreen on your child and yourself daily. The children will be playing outside for recess each day. Consider putting sunscreen on your child before they come to school. Use sunscreen consistently, follow label directions and look for a sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB rays…often labeled broad spectrum.
- Avoid the strongest rays of the day, usually from 10AM to 4PM.
- One of the best ways to cover up is to wear clothes that screen out UV rays. Placing your hand inside a garment and making sure you cannot see through it is a way to test this.
In addition, please encourage your children to wear sneakers for the playground. It is the safest choice because woodchips tend to get stuck inside an open shoe and may not grip the playground equipment as well.Thank you and enjoy having fun in the sun!
