CHS Positive Case 9/23 & 9/24

 Dear Cranford community,

 I am writing to provide you an update on the status of events at Cranford High School.  I have remained in close communication with Department of Health officials over the past 24 hours.  During this time, they conducted contact tracing.  Please be advised that their research indicates that the transmission occurred at a non-school event.    Furthermore, the Department of Health officials indicated that they believe the mitigation strategies implemented in school, particularly the wearing of face coverings, make it unlikely that further transmission took place at school.  In light of this information, the Department of Health has verified that at the present time, Cranford High School can reopen on Tuesday, September 29, 2020.  However, it is important to remain vigilant of one’s health status and to contact your child’s doctor should you have any individual concerns.   

The information communicated in the correspondence has been composed with and vetted by Department of Health officials. The school district is not able to provide additional information about the individual who has tested positive.  However, please be reminded that the Township Health Office, who conducted the contact tracing, has communicated directly with those individuals who may have been exposed to this student and will advise those families accordingly.  

Whether schools are able to remain open in a sustainable way is dependent on the choices we all make when we are away from school.  I understand and appreciate the desire to socialize, especially among our students, during this potentially isolating and unsettling period in our lives.  However, we must do so safely and responsibly.   As health officials have stated, please socialize outside, wear a mask and stay six feet apart.

Do not share food or utensils and wash your hands or use hand sanitizer frequently. And, if you have any COVID symptoms, please stay home and contact your own medical professional immediately.  Any positive test results need to be reported to your respective school as soon as possible.

I always say and believe that Cranford is a place where people genuinely care for and support one another.  I call on every individual to do their part in making good decisions on behalf of our whole community.  We will only get through this together!
