Music

The Grade 6 music cycle immerses students into the world of music making and composition through technology.  Students will learn techniques for audio recording and editing, as they explore and create original raps, melodies and soundscapes. "Hands-on" activities will allow  students to apply music skills developed in the elementary music program.  This cycle will be offered to all students who are not enrolled in the band, orchestra or chorus program.

Music Ensemble Rehearsal

Music Ensemble Rehearsal is  a required cycle class for all students participating in band, orchestra and/or chorus.  This cycle will take place during one of the 6 cycle options offered for grade 6 students.

Students will develop skills for successful participation in an ensemble setting.  In daily rehearsal routines, students will study tonal development with a focus on intonation, blend and balance along with the inherent development of ensemble rhythmic unity.  Ensemble skill development promotes greater student independence and development of listening and analytical strategies important to good musicianship.

Music Ensemble students participate in before school rehearsals and instrumental lessons that will be scheduled during the cycles when there is no ensemble class scheduled.  Students will perform in the Winter and Spring Concerts, along with other performance opportunities that may arise.
