did you know that the CHS library is named after dr. Deborah Ken and Partridge wolf if not it will be important to know the history of the illustrious library that Cranford High School calls its own dr. Debra Cannon Portage wolf was one of the most prominent figures in CA history born on December 22nd 1916 doctor Deborah Cannon Partridge wolf group in Cranford New Jersey she attended schools in Wild Kratts for high school was a member of the National Honor Society and served on the student council on editorial board of Spotlight schools she was also a very talented singer and an accomplished athlete or teaching career began at cranford's Lincoln School where she taught adult education classes through the works progress administration she quickly became head teacher and later principal graduate school in the faculty of Tuskegee Institute to create educational programs and increased teacher competence in rural areas of Alabama in 1951 what became the first African-American faculty member of Queens College the City University of New York University of Illinois and the University of Michigan while serving as chief of education for the United States House of Representatives committee on education and labor some of the most Innovative education legislation ever written was passed through Congress including the creation of Head Start financial aid in community colleges in 1970 she became the first African American woman to be ordained in the American Baptist Church in the 1975 she served as the associate pastor of Cranford First Baptist Church in addition to a mini rolls in a car he was also an active in the Civil Rights Movement she marched with dr. Martin Luther King jr. it was on the stage when he gave his famous I Have a Dream speech dr. wolf served on numerous committees and organizations including the National Alliance of black school Educators New Jersey Board of higher education was the first woman to be named president of the New Jersey Convention of progressive Baptist she held 26 honorary doctoral degrees in several educational institutions hold her name doctor will passed away on September 3rd 2004 the age of 87 doctor will broke barriers and was a revolutionary figure that we were truly blessed to have in our history here is an in-person look of a doctor Deborah Canaan partners with library and learning Commons starting off we have the entrance of the library directly next to the door rest and the books we should buy the librarians after you enter the library and admire is excellent for you you will notice that next to the door is another bookshelf featuring more books from the staff as well as a plaque this plaque honors doctor wolf giving all respect to one of the most important good people in Cranford history inside the Showcase rest information better education as well as general knowledge about her life when you walk into the library you are greeted by the circulation desk this is where you can check out books return book ask questions and in general receive guidance from our library faculty to the right of the main desk is the fiction section of the library there are fiction books surrounding this area as well as arranged work areas for students can use these desk to do work at anytime as well as for reading next is the cricket the cricket is used to make Unique Designs soon can use it to design apparel cards and almost anything then we have the central couch area this area offers a comfortable place to read or do work Behind These couches are reference books that students can look through well inside the Library this area is the nonfiction section of the library you can go freely between the bookshelves if you would like to find a book past these bookshelves hold more desk currently there is a smart board that classes can use after school events with a chess club this area this section of the library changes depending on the events going on this is art exhibits presentations and award ceremonies on the left side of the library there's a large smart board that classes can use currently the board features a. Notifier app cut it out that this place is schedules for the day in front of the Smartboard there's a classroom ask workplace or meetings are held for clubs or classes can come to get work done in a different environment the next area features a couch area with a for tables students May relax and do work comfortably from these chairs or play games with their friends students often enjoy sitting here at lunch time these bookshelves feature Makerspace materials that students can use to their advantage the Makerspace materials are available for all students one of the featured Makerspace materials are the 3D printed checkers lastly there is a chess board table that students can use to play chess or The Writing Center is an extremely useful tool for students of all grades train. Tutors work with students on analyzing content establishing organization and refining mechanics using Mentor texts and soon samples. we will build the confidence of Young Riders as they craft clear affected as in writing the reading Center aims to make a better writer not just a better paper leaving The Writing Center there shelf of all School textbooks that students can use lastly we have the podcast Studio the podcast Studios one of if not the most interesting part of the library students are permitted to use the podcast to deal with her the podcast Studio features excellent equipment for this headphones microphones and an iMac loaded with Rod Castor Pro and Adobe auditions editing software all audio recordings made in this video were created inside this podcast Studio we hope you plan to use the wolf library and learning Commons to your advantage it is a useful resource that is offered to all students
