The English as a Second Language (ESL) curriculum is designed to provide learning opportunities in the English language and exposure to the American culture for students in grades K-12, who are identified as Multilingual Learners. The curriculum is designed to provide students with opportunities to develop the skills necessary to become active members of and successful participants in the grade-level classroom setting. The curriculum is based on the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework, 2020 Edition.
Students enrolled in the ESL program are tested annually with the ACCESS 2.0 language proficiency assessment to determine their level of English language proficiency. ACCESS 2.0 scores in addition to teacher recommendation and observation are considered as part of a multiple measures approach to ensure successful acclimation to the Cranford schools.
