Child Find
Project Child Find
Project Child Find is a free referral service and public awareness campaign to assist in the identification of unserved/underserved youth with a delay or disability from ages 3-21 who may be disabled due to physical, sensory, emotional, communication, cognitive or social difficulties. The Cranford Public School District provides special education and related services to children ages 3-5 who are eligible to be classified as "Preschool Child with a Disability" based on a significant delay in one or more of the following areas: motor, communication, cognitive skills, social/emotional or adaptive skills.
Parents who may have questions about their child can contact the Director of Student Services, Kristin Szawan, at (908) 709-6217 or via email.
New Jersey's Early Intervention System (NJEIS) provides services for children ages birth until the child's third birthday who have developmental delays or disabilities, as well as provide support for families. Information about NJEIS can be found here: NJEIS or by contacting (888) 653-4463.

How to make a referral
If you would like to make a referral for special education and related services, send a written request for an evaluation to the Director of Student Services, Kristin Szawan. Please include your child's name, date of birth, address, and brief overview of your concerns or known disability. After receipt of your written request, the district's child study team has 20 days to convene a meeting with the parents/guardian. During this meeting, you and the child study team will discuss your concerns and if an evaluation is warranted and what the evaluation will include.
